Abstract:   (2195 Views)
The Asmari Formation at Nil anticline area has been studied in order to determine microfacies, depositional environment and sequence stratigraphy. In the studied section, 10 microfacies belonging to the environments from tidal flat to open sea were identified. Facies assemblages and gradual changes in microfacies column represent deposition on a homoclinal ramp. Based on shallowing and deepening pattern of microfacies and foraminifera distribution, 5 third order depositional sequences have been recognized for the Asmari Formation at this area. These sequenses were correlated with the sequences diagnosed in other parts of Zagros.
